Segensworth commercial area develops along the A27
c. 1990
The development of the Segensworth commercial area during the late 1980s and 1990s added a significant employment and retail zone to the eastern edge of Locks Heath. Business parks, retail units, car showrooms and light industrial premises were built along the A27 corridor, providing jobs and services for the growing suburban population. The Segensworth area attracted businesses that needed accessible, modern premises with good road connections, and the proximity to the M27 motorway junction made the location viable for regional and national companies. For Locks Heath residents, Segensworth provided employment opportunities close to home and access to large-format retail that the village shopping centres could not accommodate.
