Titchfield Common
Heathland green space with walking routes and conservation interest on the village edge
The northern fringe of Locks Heath borders Titchfield Common, a significant area of heathland, scrub and woodland that provides the village's most important green space. The residential streets closest to the common benefit from direct access to open countryside and the walking routes that cross the heath. The common is a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation, supporting heather, gorse, birch and a range of wildlife species. For residents living on the northern edge, the common is their back garden in all but name, and the proximity to semi-wild countryside is one of the strongest selling points of these streets. The common requires active conservation management to prevent scrub encroachment, and volunteer groups assist with this work.
